With a high optical density (4.0 Dmax), the scanners reproduce a wide range of tones with extremely high accuracy, especially in dark areas of originals. The dual lens system delivers high optical resolution scanning of film (at 6400 dpi) and photos (at 4800 dpi), with automatic selection of the appropriate lens for optimal scan quality and speed.
The Perfection V850 Pro and Perfection V800 Photo will be shown for the first time in Europe at Photokina (Stand B11, Hall 2.2, 16th-21st September 2014, Koelnmesse, Cologne). Photo enthusiasts wishing to scan an extensive collection of film in a variety of formats will find the Perfection V800 Photo provides easy to use functionality with fast, high-resolution results.
The feature-rich Perfection V850 Pro is the ideal scanner for professional photographers and advanced amateurs. The Perfection V850 Pro and Perfection V800 Photo provide the ultimate in professional scanning quality, speed and productivity across a wide range of positive and negative film formats, including 35mm strip, 35mm slide, medium format and 5x4 inch. Thanks to the quality of their optics, the size of their scanning area, their wide range of supported film formats and advanced options for dust and scratch removal, they lead the market in this segment.
Mounted 35mm transparencies can be accommodated as well as cut strip film.īoth scanners come with Digital ICE software that works with the scanner’s IR surface inspection system to automatically identify and remove dust and imperfections in the film.Īvailable from October, the Epson Perfection V800 and V850 will be priced £549.99 and £729.99 respectively.Įpson Europe press release: Epson launches benchmark flatbed film and photo scannersīuilding on the success of the Perfection V700 range, the new models’ professional quality, speed and productivity raise the bar once againĮpson announces the launch of two outstanding film and photo flatbed scanners: the Perfection V850 Pro and Perfection V800 Photo, for converting back catalogues and collections of photo film and prints into professional-quality digital images.
The anti-Newton ring plate is designed to help keep film strips flat in the holder when they are being scanned. The V850 will come with two complete sets of film holders to save time when there is a lot of scanning to do. This should help users achieve sharper images as the film will be held flat. The V850 also has superior optical coatings and a brighter mirror.Įpson says that it has redesigned its plastic holders for all sizes of film, and that all holders now include an anti-Newton ring plate to help prevent film sagging in the mount.
The V800 will come with SilverFast SE 8 scanning software, while buyers of the V850 will get SilverFast SE Plus 8 as well as a fluid mount adapter (on application) for keeping film flat during scanning. Once again the main difference between the two scanners will be what is included in the package. Like the V750 and V700, the V850 and V800 will use a dual lens system to achieve the varying optical resolution when working with reflective or transparent materials, and the company quotes a DMax of 4.0, as was the case with the earlier products. LEDs are also more power efficient, using 20% less energy while in use, and 44% less while in ready’ mode. LEDs don’t need to be calibrated, and while a cold cathode tube has an operational life of 5-7 years, LEDs should last 8-10 years.
The company says that LED light sources are more consistent than cold cathode, and do not change color or intensity during their life. While cold cathode is valued in the darkroom for its diffused light, the Epson ReadyScan LEDs used in these scanners are claimed to warm-up immediately so there is no waiting for the machine to make itself ready.Įpson is gradually shifting away from cold cathode in its scanners, with the V500 being the first to convert in 2007. With maximum scanning resolutions of 6400x9600dpi for film and 4800x9600dpi for prints, the principle difference in the new models from the old is the change from a cold cathode light source to LED. Replacing the Epson Perfection V750 and V700, which were introduced in February 2006, the Epson Perfection V850 and V800 will feature the same specification as the previous models, but will benefit from faster start-up and lower power consumption. Epson has announced a pair of high-end flatbed scanners that are capable of digitizing film in sizes of up to 10x8in.
